Connor McDavid has a point in each of his last 8 games, and so does Mikael Granlund. Philadelphia hasn’t won in 8. Kyle Connor has put 3 or more shots on goal in 9 straight, and Lucas Raymond hasn’t scored in 13. From today every one of those runs has a home on Pucks & Stats, along with every other streak in the NHL, three days after the site launched.

Streaks are the first thing most fans check after a final: is he still going? So we built two hubs for them, one for players and one for teams, and put the same numbers on every game preview, every recap and every player and team page. They rebuild after every final, usually within 15 minutes of the horn.

Two hubs: players and teams

Player streaks has every active point, goal, assist and shot streak, the goalies on a run and the scorers in a drought. Team streaks has win, point and winless runs, overs and unders, scoring first and power-play goals. Each kind of streak gets its own tab, with the longest active run up top, its last 10 games underneath and the rest of the league listed beside it.

How we count

A streak counts games in a row, and only the games a player actually plays. A night off through injury, a healthy scratch or a suspension neither extends a run nor ends it. Lists start at 3 games, and everything is regular season only.

Skater streaks carry over from the end of last season, and the hub tells you how much. McDavid’s 8 includes 2 games from April: 6 this season, 2 from the end of last. Goalie streaks, power-play streaks and team streaks start fresh each season.

Goalies count starts. A win streak runs over decisions, so a start in which a goalie is pulled and gets no decision leaves his streak where it was.

A shootout goal is not a goal for the player who scores it, the same as in the league’s own scoring, so it never extends a goal or point streak. The shootout winner does add a goal to the final score, so it counts toward overs and unders.

Goal droughts list scorers only: players who scored 25 goals or more last season, or who score 0.35 goals a game across the two seasons, and only from 5 games. A fourth-liner without a goal in 10 games isn’t news. Connor Bedard without one in 11 is.

Tonight’s streaks, with the price for them to go on

On game days both hubs open a section called On the line tonight: the players and teams on a streak who play that night, and the price for each run to go on. For a point, a goal, an assist or 2 points, that is the price at the prediction-market venues we compare (Kalshi, Polymarket and ProphetX), next to the best price at the US sportsbooks and how many of them quote it. For a 3+ shot streak it is the shots line most books post, and how often the player has cleared it in his last 10. For teams it is the price to win, plus the total line for the overs and unders.

On every game, player and team page

Every preview now has a Streaks section right after the head-to-head: each club’s runs and its players’, with the chance the venues give each one of going on tonight. Tonight’s Rangers at Devils preview leads with the Rangers, who have scored first in 7 straight, and Alexis Lafrenière, who has a point in 5.

After the final horn the recap shows what the game did to every run. In Seattle’s win in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Trevor Zegras ended a 7-game goal drought and the Flyers’ winless streak reached 8.

Player and team pages carry their best active run next to the next game: McDavid’s page reads Point streak 8 before tonight’s game against Utah. And on game days the homepage opens with the longest runs among the teams playing that night.

What we store

Every streak is rebuilt from data we keep ourselves: the box score line of every player in every game, every goal with its strength and its assists, and every final score. This season that is 4,280 player lines, 663 goals and 107 finals so far, plus last season’s game logs for 1,097 players, which is where the carry-over comes from. Nothing is entered by hand, and the same numbers drive the hubs, the previews, the recaps and the player and team pages, so they never disagree.

After every final the whole set is rebuilt in about a second. If a box score changes later, usually a goal or an assist credited to a different player, the streaks change with it.

Next up are the records: the longest win, point and winless streaks in every franchise’s history, and the longest point and goal streaks since 1990-91. Wayne Gretzky’s 51-game point streak from 1983-84 is safe.
