How NHL point streaks are counted

A point streak is a run of games in a row in which a player records at least one goal or assist. Only the games he plays count: a game he misses through injury, a healthy scratch or a suspension neither extends nor ends it. Right now 42 players have a point streak of 3 games or more, led by Connor McDavid at 12.

The page counts the regular season only. A skater’s run carries over from the end of last season, and the leader cards say how many of the games came this season. Goalie and power-play streaks start fresh each season. Team runs are on team streaks.

What is the longest point streak in NHL history?

Wayne Gretzky’s 51 games for the Edmonton Oilers in 1983-84, with 153 points along the way. Mario Lemieux’s 46 is the closest anyone else has come.

How do goalie streaks work?

Goalie streaks count starts. A win streak runs over decisions, so a start in which he is pulled and gets no decision neither extends nor ends it. The other two count starts allowing 2 goals or fewer, and starts at a .900 save percentage or better.

What is a goal drought?

Games in a row without a goal. Only scorers are listed, from 5 games: players who scored 25 goals or more last season, or who score 0.35 goals a game over this season and last. “Snapped” lists the streaks of 5 games or more that ended in the last day, and every game recap shows the runs that game extended or ended.
