The 32 NHL teams
The NHL has 32 teams: 25 in the United States and seven in Canada. They play in two conferences, the East with the Atlantic and Metropolitan divisions and the West with the Central and Pacific, each division with eight teams.
Which teams are in each division?
The Atlantic: Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Florida, Montréal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Toronto. The Metropolitan: Carolina, Columbus, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington. The Central: Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis, Utah and Winnipeg. The Pacific: Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver and Vegas.
Which are the newest teams?
The Vegas Golden Knights joined in 2017-18 and the Seattle Kraken in 2021-22. Utah joined in 2024-25 and has played as the Utah Mammoth since 2025-26.
