The desks

Who writes Pucks & Stats

Three desks write our stories: the games and the clubs, the stats and records, and the markets. Each one works from the same numbers you see on the site, and every figure in a story links to the page it lives on.

Game previews, recaps and the hub pages are written from the data by the Data Desk.

Automated coverage

The Data Desk

Every game gets a preview before puck drop and a recap after the final horn, written from the data: form, head-to-head, goalies, injuries and the market price before the game; the score, shot map, expected goals and the three stars after it.

Data Desk pages carry no personal byline because no one picks the numbers in them. The same editorial standards apply, and the methodology sets out every model they use.

What every desk works to

Editorial standards
01

Every number lives on a page

A figure in a story is a figure on the site: the box score, table or team page it came from, linked where it lives so you can check it.

02

Final means final

A game counts once it is final. Season lines are rebuilt after every final and checked against the league's official totals.

03

Our maths, shown

Expected goals, expected points and fair prices are our own calculations. The page says so, and the methodology sets out the formula.

04

Corrections in the open

Tell us about a wrong number and we fix it in the data store, so it is fixed on every page that uses it, and we say what changed.

The full rules are in our editorial standards; the formulas are in the methodology.
