Philadelphia Flyers players Travis Sanheim and Nicolas Deslauriers celebrate a goal in Pittsburgh

Last season, 119 regular-season games ended in a shootout. Another 207 were settled in overtime, so 326 of 1,312 games went past sixty minutes, one in four.

Who banked the extra points

Philadelphia won ten shootouts and lost four. Anaheim went 8-0. Columbus finished 7-2. At the other end, Pittsburgh lost ten of thirteen and Vegas eight of nine.

Every shootout win is worth a full point in the standings, and shootout results carry little from one season to the next. A team that lived off them is worth a second look before its points total is taken at face value.
